From the Editor
A Las Vegas news channel recently did a story on a model
and columnist, Sonja, who tried online dating, but
ended up being assaulted by the guy she met. You
can read and view the report by clicking
here. Like with many people, Sonja failed to follow important online dating
safety tips, particularly when it comes to meeting someone for the first time.
Her story is a testament that it is important to always keep your guard up and
follow advice
like that given in the following articles:
>
What Are The Dangers of Online Dating?
>
Meeting Face to Face for the First Time
>
How to Stay Clear of Married Men
Unfortunately, Sonja's experience has caused her to
stereotype online dating. She says, "I realized
that when I tried the online dating thing - that if
you're willing to pay $19.99 a month, you'll meet $19.99
guys."
There are tens of thousands of happily married people,
who met through online dating, that might dispute that
statement. The simple fact is that no matter where
you meet another person, if you're not cautious then
you could end up a victim. If Sonja had met a guy in
a bar and agreed to go out with him and gave him her
home address, the same thing could have happened. The
real message here is that no matter where you meet
someone, it's important to be cautious and to be safe.
May your dating experiences be safe,

Creative Date Ideas:
Spin the Date
This creative date idea is a lot of fun, but it also
takes a lot of preparation. First, you need to rent or
purchase a prize wheel. Go to eBay and search "prize
wheel" to find some you can buy. Now fill in the
prize areas with creative
date ideas.
Invite your date over for a "surprise date". When he/she arrives, have
the wheel all set up so it is the first thing (besides you) that your date sees
when the door is open. Have your date spin the wheel. Where the wheel stops is
the date for the night/day. Be prepared in advance for any of the possibilities,
then immediately begin your date. The cool thing is that the prize wheel can
be used for other things too, like special places to go to dinner. And spinning
the wheel is a lot of fun; much more entertaining than couples saying "I
don't care where we go, where do you want to go?" over and over. (SOURCE:

Online Dating Tips:
Protect Your Identity
When initially communicating with others, via an online dating service, be
sure to protect your identity; particularly if you are female. Armed with just
a name, a person can easily get your phone number, home address, etc. Armed
with a phone number, a person can quickly get your full name and address. It's
important to realize that while online dating is generally safe, there are
some shady characters, even on sites that claim to weed out such characters
through "background checks". When your instincts indicate something
fishy may be going on with someone you are communicating with, trust those
instincts. When it is time to chat on the phone, offer to call the other person
or give him/her your cell phone number or use an anonymous calling service
like MyPrivateLine.com. When you meet, make sure the first meeting is in a
public place, that you arrive separately, and that your friends know where
you are. There's no need to be paranoid, but simply be alert when it comes
to being safe
in your online dating experience. (SOURCE: Online Dating Newsletter - www.onlinedatingnewsletter.com)

Relationship Tips:
Handling Overreaction
"When a woman overreacts, if her partner would give her some understanding
and a sign of empathy for her stress and struggle rather than make her wrong
for it, she would quickly recover. The most powerful way to do this is with
a hug. Women need to be touched and hugged. It is one of the most powerful
ways for a man to communicate his support... Correspondingly, if a woman can
give a man space to grumble he will recover more quickly." (SOURCE: Men,
Women, and Relationships, by John Gray, Ph.D. - in bookstores everywhere)

Romantic Ideas:
The Talking Photo
Giving your significant other a framed photo of yourself can be a treasured
gift and one that will remind your partner of you when you are away from each
other.
Why not add an extra personal touch to the framed photo idea by using a frame
with a special voice recording feature? You can usually find one of these frames
at your local gift shop and, if not, they are available on Amazon.com by clicking
here. Many parents give voice recording frames as gifts with their child's
voice
and
picture, but this is also a great idea for couples.
This romantic idea may have additional special meaning
if you are in a long distance relationship or if your
partner has to travel a lot for work. Being able to
not only see your face smiling back at them but also
to hear your voice is a good way to help them deal
with missing you while away.
Pick your favorite picture of you or the two of you
or go that extra step and have a professional photo
taken. Once the photo is mounted in the frame, record
a love message with the recording feature. The important
thing is that the message is personal and heartfelt.
It can even be as simple as saying the person's name
followed by, "I love you and I think we are a
great couple." If you're bold and creative then
script a personalize poem and recite it. Simply record
a message that your partner will forever cherish. (SOURCE:

Feature Link: The
Bar is Better Than Online Dating
Online Dating Magazine has published a reader's online
dating experience where she expresses her frustrations
over the many men she's met from various states
via online dating. Here's a quote from her experience:
"Ok I have done the online dating thing on and
off for about seven years. I have done it in California,
Washington D.C., Dallas and Nashville. It's the same
everywhere (except in Nashville where the men were
much more gentlemanly). After my many experiences I
have come to basically the same conclusion about men
you meet on the net (or any forced singles situation
for that matter) - they are cheap."
She concludes that people would have better success
at a bar.
