Verona Street Refund Checks Bounce!

(onlinedatingmagazine.com - February 13, 2004) On January 21, Online Dating Magazine reported that new online dating service Verona Street had refunded money that men paid into the site last year after the service failed to open as scheduled on December 15. In another setback and embarrassment for the company, those refund checks bounced, causing some members who cashed the check to face financial charges from their bank! In a follow-up move, Verona Street sent $50 money orders to everyone who had received a check. Accompanying the check was the following letter:

We are sorry! We messed up!

The refund checks we sent you a few weeks ago were written on a Wells Fargo account that was closed. It was an honest but obviously dumb mistake. We are definitely paying the price because we now have to pay extra to cover the return fees.

Please find enclosed a money order in the amount of $50. This should cover any bank fees you may have incurred because of our mistake.
