Date.com: Office Romance is Bad for Business

(onlinedatingmagazine.com - May 11, 2004) The office romance game is a risky one to play and tough to win. Some contestants on the hit show "The Apprentice" were rumored to have engaged in horizontal hi-jinks to better their chances at winning. Based on this scenario Date.com, a leading online dating site, asked its members: Is having an office romance a wise business move?

Members were given the choice of Yes, you can have it all if you strategize it correctly and No, office romances are always a bad idea if only due to resentment from co-workers and subordinates.

A large majority of 74 percent of women and 65 percent of men said office affairs were a definite no-no. The remaining 26 percent of women and 35 percent of men admitted that love at work was a feasible choice.

"The Date.com results show how many people are averse to the idea of having a romantic relationship with a co-worker", said Brenda Ross, relationship advisor for Date.com. "A failed liaison makes for an uncomfortable, at the least, and dangerous, at the worst, work situation. But on those occasions when it does work out, the people involved often know each other so well that it can make for a lasting relationship"

The poll generated 3028 respondents.
