Matchmaker Redesigns and Relaunches
Online Dating Service(onlinedatingmagazine.com -
August 13, 2003) MatchMaker, an online dating destination
for singles serious about finding a long-term relationship,
has launched an entirely new online dating
environment.
MatchMaker's most distinguishing feature, its in-depth personal
profiles, continues to be the centerpiece of the new
site design, helping members learn enough about prospective
partners so that "by the time you
meet, you know™." Terra Lycos, which runs MatchMaker, is using the new tag line as the centerpiece
of a new marketing campaign for its MatchMaker site.
"MatchMaker is designed for people
who know what they want in a relationship and are looking
for the best place to find it," said Meredith
Hanrahan, global vice president of dating for Terra
Lycos. "Everyone knows that finding the perfect
match can be a big job, but most big jobs aren't nearly
as much fun as finding love, and MatchMaker sure beats
waiting for your grandmother to set you up on another
blind date. Our members tell us over and over that
they learn more from our user profiles than they do
on a
typical first date!"
MatchMaker is offering a special "get
acquainted" price promotion for new members for
only $9.95/month for either one, three or six months,
a tremendous discount from the usual $24.95/month subscription
fee.
"MatchMaker provides serious daters with the best online dating environment, and helping
people find long-term relationships is the key to this
business," said
Steven Gross, vice president of marketing for Terra Lycos.
In a recent national "State of the
Date" survey
of American singles performed using Insight Express,
it was revealed that singles seeking serious relationships
outnumber those looking to just date by four to one.
The desire for a serious relationship was strong across
all age groups, as well as among men and women. Analyzing
the responses by age and gender further revealed a
strong drive for serious relationships over serial
dating
across all groups.
MatchMaker's in-depth
profiles remain an important tool for discovering a
potential mate's
values, likes and dislikes, and with the new site are
easier to create, scan and digest. Profiles are organized
in easy-to-read sections including "personality," "social
life" and "relationships," and allow
members to determine quickly if another user is looking
for some one just like them.
Each member has his or her own newly
designed homepage to serve as a base of operations
in relationship seeking. Members are only one click
away from their private email, HotList, search area
and most other areas of the site.
Members can set up
Matchmarkers that serve as custom filters, or short
cuts, in identifying matches who meet their own specified
sets of criteria -- must-haves or highly desirable
traits in a mate. Looking for an outdoorsy athletic
type? Create a Matchmarker profile and icon, and the
site will attach it to anyone who fits your bill. Matchmaker
will even notify you if a new member signs on who
is a match for your Matchmarker.
Members can also jot
personal notes to themselves (that no one else will
see) right on their own copies of other members' profiles
and on their HotList -- keeping track of their online
dating lives more effectively. The site's new Matchmeter
is displayed in search results and on member profiles
to indicate how good a match some one is for them
- measuring against all the things they've stated
are deal makers and deal breakers with a four-star
system.
