AIDS Plays Key Role in Dating Amongst Singles

(onlinedatingmagazine.com - September 13, 2003) Last year, American Singles, an online dating service, conducted a poll of over 1,300 eligible singles to determine how AIDS has affected their sexual habits.

The poll results revealed that AIDS affects the sexual behaviour and decisions of an overwhelming majority of singles with 60% saying they regularly use condoms to practice safe-sex and a whopping 32% practice abstinence. 9% of singles surveyed said that they are not worried about contracting AIDS.

According to a recent report on the AIDS epidemic in the United States, issued by UNAIDS and the World Health Organization, the proportion of AIDS cases resulting from heterosexual contact has continued to increase and accounted for 22% of recently diagnosed cases.

AIDS plays a key role in determining the dating and sexual practices of singles today, stated Gail Laguna, spokesperson for American Singles.

"15% of the singles at AmericanSingles.com said they insist new partners have an AIDS test while 25% say they have themselves tested regularly," said Laguna.

According to United Nations officials, the HIV/AIDS pandemic has expanded its reach across the planet, afflicting more than 70 million people since it began.
