Online Dating Didn't Work for Me

I agree with other opinions posted here. I wasted a lot of money trying six different online dating sites on and off over a period of about five years. I am extremely disappointed and I think that eHarmony was the worst.

My complaints are not only about the poor services but also the quality of matches.

Sadly enough, based on my online dating experience, the male users of these sites seem to be predominantly people with serious psychological disorders. You can meet individuals with such issues anywhere but it appears that their concentration is particularly high in online dating sites, because of the anonymity and lack of screening. I would like to add to the classification of the 40-year old woman a few examples of the pathology I met:

- the online dating addict - an active user of for over 10 years! My rough estimates are that so far he spent $25,000. Will he ever find his soul mate?

- the serial dater - he is everywhere, flirts with all girls and after a couple of contacts disappears - off to the next one.

- the control freak - he will contact you only when he decides, and you are supposed to patiently wait because you are so not worthy.

- the women hater - he will use you and get rid of you by doing or saying something hurting.

- the prescription drug addict (yes, I met personally or talked to quite a few) who passes for a nice guy who does not drink alcohol and prefers to stay home.

- the undecisive one who disappears without an explanation right before you both agree to talk on the phone or meet in person.

In summary, I paid a lot of money and wasted time in exchange for unnecessary negative experience and emotions. I have been in a steady two year relationship now with a wonderful man who I met the old-fashioned way - at a concert through friends. Sorry for not being able to say anything encouraging about online dating to those who are hopeful but it definitely did not work for me.
