Humor Versus Reality – Do Nice Guys Finish Last?
There is an old saying that “Nice Guys Finish Last”. Is there any truth to that? Interestingly enough there have been studies about this – some tackling the adage from a “employment” standpoint and others from a “dating” standpoint. The results?
According to a 2011 study that appeared in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology nice guys do, in fact, finish last when it comes to income. Why is that? Because “nice guys” are more willing to compromise and not step on other people. Those who aren’t “nice guys” are more aggressive.
So what about dating? Do nice guys finish last there too?
A study published in the 2010 issue of the British Journal of Psychology found that women prefer nice guys, particularly those who volunteer or help others. They find them to be “more attractive”.
Now here’s the kicker and something that can help you with online dating – a study in the American Psychological Association journal Emotion found that women are more attracted to “serious” and “confident” photos of men online. Men, meanwhile, are more attracted to women who smile in their photos.
