Humor vs. Reality – Online Dating Photos
When going on a first date, you never get a second chance to make a good first impression. Part of that impression will be on how you look compared to your online dating photo. For example, if you posted a photo from five years ago, the person you are meeting is likely to have an initial negative impression, believing that you “lied” on your profile. If you have done a lot of photoshopping on your online dating picture then that also will result in a negative first impression from the person you are meeting. What’s important is that you put a recent and genuine photo in your profile. You should never have a photo more than 4 months old on your profile. And it should be less than that if you’ve had a major change in hair style, hair length, or anything else that will make you look different to your date.
Ideally you should be able to wear an outfit from one of your photos on a first date to better make the correlation between how you looked online and how you look in “real life”.
Online Dating Photo Rules
– Don’t “enhance” or “doctor” your online dating photos.
– Try to keep your photos fresh. Preferably this means deleting photos more than 30 days old and putting up new ones.
– Don’t try to hide things in your photos (i.e. having only an extreme face closeup to hide weight gain). Be happy with who you are. You want people to date you for who you are, not for who you project yourself to be.
– Refresh all your photos if you do something new to your hair or body, even if your “old” photos are only a few days old.
I agree that reality and online life can be totally different.
A person who loves you online may not like you in real life.
