I tried eHarmony admittedly because the commercials
were intriguing.
The personality profile was a welcome change to the
stats-only process of most services, but as with any
personality test, it got many things about me 180 degrees
incorrect. It is imperfect, but I didn't think it was
so far off that it was useless.
After going through the test, you get to see some
of your potential matches. I had four matches that
seemed alright, but did not meet my geographical requirements.
I am in a small town (fewer than 40,000) so I was hoping
to meet someone who was in the same predicament I was:
small town, busy lifestyle, hates bars, not religious,
new to the city, etc. The closest match to me was over
70 miles away. While this might not be a deal killer
for some, it certainly adds a 30th dimension of compatibility
that Dr. Warren's service doesn't seem to appreciate.
It should have said that my 30 mile radius request
could not be met & I should increase this range,
but it did not.
Over the next five days, I did spark up communication
with one woman (80 miles away), but after reading her
reply to one of my open-ended questions, I stopped
that one. Five days and 20+ "matches" later,
I still had not been matched with anyone in my requested
area. In fact, the service began showing matches that
were over 120 miles away!
The one other problem that has been discussed here
before is the lack of any type of physical requirements.
Now, I'm not a shallow man and I have dated larger
women and would do so again. I am; however, simply
not physically attracted to women when they reach a
certain body type. I am a slim, very physically fit
person and it was reflected in my profile. Why they
would match me with several women that were 200+ lbs.
is beyond me. I am also only 5'7". Again, a taller
woman doesn't concern me, but I find it hard to believe
that a 5'10" woman would be particularly interested
in a man who is 3" shorter in stocking feet. This
is a fatal flaw that they need to address. Perhaps
if this was included in the service, there would be
a lower level of frustration for its members.
This might be a different and much more gracious review
if I lived in a big city and truly did not care about
physical traits. As it is, eHarmony is all but useless
to me.
