Review
I am seeking legal assistance against eHarmony.
Their system has a user option by which you can set
auto-renew membership. Several weeks ago, I set this
setting to Not Renew. Days later, the system was
updated several days before my account was suppose
to expire. When this happened, it reset my account
to Auto Renew. They charged my card $49.95 without
my consent on June 1st. I canceled this account [again]
on the same date, but they refuse to refund my money.
Instead, they offered to give me 2 months free? I
don't want to months free because I found a partner,
and I have no use for eHarmony's service.
The way I see it, if they can afford to give me 2 months
free,
they can afford $49.95.
Rhetorical questions to ponder:
1. Why did it take so
long for eharmony customer care to respond to my
first inquiry? Was it on purpose?
I can understand being "under high demand" but
5 days? Please.
2. Why wasn't a site update email sent out to members?
3. Adam states that I will get 2 free months free,
even though I just closed my account on the First of
June 2005. Did he re activate my account without my
approval?
4. How many other people has this happened to?
5. Should I follow through with consumer fraud charges?
As of 6-14-05, eHarmony is under investigation by
the Attorney Generals office.
Editor's Note: If you feel
wronged by an online dating service and try to resolve
the problem, but
get no response, then there is recourse. Many online
dating services are members of the Better Business
Bureau. File a complaint against the service. When
I had a problem with True (what I consider a very deceitful
online dating service), I saw that they were part of
the Better Business Bureau and let them know that if
I
didn't get a response or action on my issue then I
would file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
True did respond and although it
wasn't
to my satisfaction,
the fact that they responded and tried (even minimally)
to solve the problem resulted in me foregoing an official
complaint. Let the service you are having a problem
with know that if they don't try to resolve the problem
or issue then you'll file a complaint with the Better
Business Bureau. If they don't respond, stick to your
word and file a complaint. The URL to use for filing
a complaint is http://complaint.bbb.org/ .
Remember to only use this as a last result and only
if the company does nothing to try and resolve your
issue.
