Review
After completing the long survey and filling out my
profile, it took over a week before any "matches" were
sent my way. I could read their bio, but not see
any photos [big annoyance]. Who wants to pay $50
just to see what sort of people are your supposed "matches?" I
then start getting requests for communication, but
none of the bio's were worth the price of admission.
Finally one was, so I used the "3mos for the
price of 1" promotion and signed up.
The whole communication process was tedious. It took
over a week before I ever reached open communication
and finally got to see a pic of the person I'd been
interested in [on paper]. Big disappointment. Her bio
said exercising regularly and staying fit where important,
but she was easily 30-40lbs overweight, quite a bit
for a 5'1" frame.
This was, unfortunately, par for the course at eHarmony.
During the 3 monthsI was on eHarmony, there were only ever
3 matches out of 50+ that I found attractive enough
to
actually meet with. None went beyond a first date.
Unless physical attraction is of lesser importance
to you, eHarmony will probably not be your cup of tea. Over
the same period, I met 10+ people off Match.com, and
of those wound up with a couple of good friends and
two long term relationships.
eHarmony's BIG problems:
#1: Blind dates. You can't
view photos until you've paid up, and even then most
people [~80%] hide their
photos till you've gone through the first few communication
steps. If someone's hiding their pic, there's usually
a good reason.
#2: When looking at someone's profile, you
have no way of knowing whether they're a member or not. If
they're not, they can't see your pic should you try
to initiate communications, much less write you back.
You could waist your time trying to communication with
20 different people and never know they're not a member.
#3: No body. eHarmony goes
on the faulty "love is blind" premise.
Nowhere in the myriad of questions you answer or preferences
you can select is there any mention of fitness level,
weight, or body type [eg fit/ average/ overweight].
You can only see someone's height, big deal, knowing
someone is 5'7" doesn't tell you if they're slim
and svelte or morbidly obese. Under your "can't
stands" you can list overweight, but it's worded
in such a way as to sound crass, and doesn't effect
the matches you receive.
#4: Lockout. Once your membership
expires you can't communicate with established matches.
You're also locked
out of your "mailbox" and unable to read/
review any previous correspondence. If someone had
provided contact info and you didn't copy it elsewhere,
you're SOL.
#5: One shot deal. If you wait
a while to become a member, you will probably have
several potential matches
end communications because you didn't answer them
in a timely manner. Once someone "closes" the
match, there is no way to see their profile or contact
them.
#6: Limited matches. I'm sure results will vary, but
I received on average only 2-3 matches per week.
