The Single Life Episode 4 – Bad First Date

In the fourth episode of The Single Life we get to hear all about how the first date went between Brent and Carly. This comes in the form of Carly and Lisa talking about it during lunch break and Kip and Brent talking about it. Of course, it is a bit awkward since Kip is Brent’s best friend and Lisa is Carly’s best friend. So it would be awkward if things didn’t go well, right?

Our Review
Episode 4 of The Single Life continues its “time leaps” by skipping over the first date between Brent and Carly. We only hear about it after the fact when Carly and Lisa talk about it and Brent and Kip talk about it. It’s fun to see the two different sides compare notes, but it would have been more fun if we had been able to see the date play out. Glamour has missed some great opportunities to really draw readers into the story.

Here are some of the “fun facts” from this episode:

“Women are twice as likely to use emoticons in text messages, but men use a wider variety. :-)”

“On a first date, women take up to 1 hour to decide if they will be up for a second date.”

“Men only take about 15 minutes to make the same decision.”

One of the most enjoyable parts of the episode was listening to Carly tell Lisa what to tell Kip about the date, then seeing what Lisa actually texts to Kip. Once again, the episode was fun and insightful, but it still suffers greatly from “fast forward” and “skip important moments” syndrome. And for that reason, we give it 3 out of 5 stars.
