From the Editor
It's fascinating to see how online dating has evolved
since it's early beginnings. To date, the evolution
of Internet dating has gone through four main phases:
Newsgroups > Bulletin Board Systems > Portals > Web
That's four major phases in just under two decades.
It makes one wonder how far off the next major phase
is and what it will be. But in the meantime, being
a part of this evolutionary process is simply exciting...
as long as it isn't a lifetime venture, that is.
As you'll see in today's Feature Link section, Online
Dating Magazine is starting to compile the history
of various online dating services for a new "Industry
History" section. Theres lots to learn, too, like
how a Ticketmaster acquisition in early 2002 massively
expanded the reach of Match.com.
Studying the history of these major online dating
services starts to paint a picture of why they succeeded
over the thousands of new dating sites that open every
year. And that provides a glimpse as to why you're
using Match.com or LavaLife instead of "billybobsfreedatingservice.com."
May your dating experience evolve to future success,

Creative Date Ideas:
Boat Cruise
If you live near a major lake, river, bay, or ocean (or
are planning to visit an area with one), a boat cruise
can be a fun and inventive date option. There are several
types of boat cruises available in tourist areas that
have a major river or lake as a focal point. A sightseeing
cruise is a great idea if you are vacationing in a new
area and want to learn a little about the history of
the buildings and natural landmarks. If you are planning
a boat ride in your own city, a dinner cruise might be
a good romantic choice and an enjoyable way to see your
city from a different perspective by getting out on the
water. If you are leaning toward an adventurous date,
many boat rides can take you out on islands and different
attractions where you can get out of the boat and explore.
Whether your mood is fun and inquisitive, romantic, or
adventurous, a boat cruise is a unique way you and your
date can take advantage of what nature has to offer.

Online Dating Tips:
Create an Aura of Mystery
In general, women are turned off by men they first meet who excessively talk
about themselves. If you're a man, learn how to "create an aura of mystery" within
your communications. Leave the focus off of yourself and put it on the lady
you are communicating with. Be the one asking all the questions and don't offer
answers to questions that she hasn't asked. Most women could care less about
what material possessions you have, etc. Relationships aren't about material
possessions; they are about communication. And when a woman sees that you can
communicate through thoughtful questions and a desire to get to know her more
on an intellectual level, then you'll generally find a favorable response.
Here's what to do:
Step 1: When you email a woman, ask her specific
questions about things in her profile. Pull out a
sample of something
she said. For example: "You say in your profile
that 'A romantic night to me is a good home cooked
meal shared together.' What is your favorite type of
dish to eat?" (see the Online Dating Tip from
March 30, 2005, for more on this)
Step 2: Don't volunteer any information about yourself.
Your goal is to become mysterious by not talking about
yourself unless she asks you a specific question.
When you build an "aura of mystery" this
is generally what happens:
After several communications the lady you are emailing
starts telling a friend that she is "communicating
with this great guy." The friend then starts asking
questions about you that the girl realizes she doesn't
have answers for and she's then excited to get to know
you more. Your "aura of mystery" has put
all the attention on her. Don't worry, you'll get your
chance to talk.
A mysterious man who listens, pays attention, and
confidently acts upon what he learns is one who becomes
a true "catch" in the online dating world.

Relationship Tips:
An Email a Day
A thoughtful way to bring a little happiness to your partner during their time
at work is to send them an email each workday. During your morning coffee break
or afternoon lunch break, take a few minutes to send a short email to your
significant other letting them know you are thinking about them and you love
them. Share a little tidbit of information from your day or, better yet, inquire
about their day. Your loved one will feel appreciated and will be reassured
that out of sight doesn't mean out of mind when it comes to your relationship.
Work can be stressful for many people and a mid-day email from someone bringing
messages of love and happy tidings can help make the hectic workday a little
brighter. When you email, you might want to start a fun little tradition of
creating acronyms. For example, sign an email TOY, your name. When the person
emails back "what is TOY" say, "Thinking Of You". Doing
things like this will strengthen the bond of your daily relationship. (SOURCE:

Romantic Ideas:
The Surprise Scrapbook
Many couples capture their fun and special moments with a camera, whether digital
or film. If the photos aren't in a computer file, then there are likely stashed
away in a box or album on a shelf. Here's your chance to really make your partner's
year (and that goes double for guys who incorporate this idea):
Take your favorite photos of you and your partner
and make a romantic scrapbook for your loved one. If
your photos are on your computer, take the best ones
and use an online service (like KodakGallery.com) to
get prints. Scrapbooking is becoming more and more
popular to the point where there are even scrapbooking
clubs in virtually every city and major multi-day conventions
every year. As a result, stores like Target dedicate
an entire isle to scrapbooking supplies (including
cool "clip art"). Some fun scrapbooking decorative
items include colored paper for cut out designs, special
shaped scissors for designer paper edges, and photo
stickers to mount your photographs in a fun and artistic
way. Add zest to the typical photo album by turning
it into a scrapbook filled with keepsakes, decorations,
and sweet messages.
For an added personal touch you can theme your scrapbook.
Make an entire book dealing with your first date or
your engagement. Include photos, notes on your feelings
and impressions, and mementos such as the ticket stub
of the movie you saw on your first date or pressed
petals from the flower bouquet presented to celebrate
that occasion. Your partner will love the time and
creative effort you put into turning their photographs
into special memories. It will be something your significant
other will always cherish. (SOURCE: Online Dating Newsletter
