eHarmony Marriages Abound - 33,000 in One
Year
(onlinedatingmagazine.com -
February 1, 2006) According to eHarmony,
a new Harris Interactive research study found that
between August
2004 and August 2005, 33,000 people who met on eHarmony ended
up getting married.
"The increase in the number of people
turning to online relationship services like eHarmony to find their soul mate has resulted in a significant
number of marriages nationwide," stated Dr. Galen
Buckwalter, vice president of research & development
at eHarmony. "As this burgeoning trend continues,
eHarmony should see dramatic increases annually in
the number of people who marry as a result of being
matched on the site."
The 33,000 marriages average out to
just over 90 marriages a day. eHarmony has consistently
made the claim that people who met on eHarmony and
marry are "significantly happy" than those who didn't
meet on eHarmony.
"One of my greatest joys in life
is reading the dozens of daily success stories we receive
from eHarmony members. It is so pleasing to me to that
a credible independent polling company has shown that
so many of our members are getting married every single
day of the year," said Dr. Neil Clark Warren,
chairman and co-founder of eHarmony. "Soon-to-
be-released research has found that eHarmony married
couples are significantly happier than married couples
who met by any other means. Our unique ability to marry
quantity with quality is the reason why eHarmony continues
to hold the distinction of more marriages per match
than any online dating service."
According to Online Dating Magazine publisher,
Joe Tracy, the number of online dating marriages is
pretty high.
"We estimate the number of overall online
dating marriages to be more than 100,000 a year," says
Tracy. "Online dating is the best medium, by far, to
meet awesome people to date."
The study was commissioned by eHarmony.
Methodology to come up with the results was as follows:
Harris conducted a nationwide poll of
people who married between September 1, 2004 and August
31, 2005 and this research found that 16,630 marriages
resulted from eHarmony matches during this period.
The study was conducted by telephone using a representative
sample of married Americans. Married respondents were
about equally divided between men (47%) and women (53%).
The overall margin of error for the current study is
+/- 1.4%.
