Online Daters More Confident
Than Offline Daters
(onlinedatingmagazine.com -
March 12, 2004) Tickle
Matchmaking, an online dating
service from Tickle Inc., has revealed research results
showing that online daters are more confident, romantic
and committed to a relationship than non-online daters.
The research was conducted by the Tickle Research Group,
Tickle's in-house think tank responsible for research
and development of the company's PhD certified personality,
relationship and career tests.
The findings are based
on a sample of more than 250,000 singles in the U.S.,
who responded to Tickle's personality and relationship
tests. Highlights include the following:
-- Online
daters are more confident.
-- Only 69 percent of
online daters have trouble asking someone out on
a date versus 79 percent of non-online daters.
--
Forty-six percent say they feel comfortable making
direct eye contact with someone they have just
met versus 34 percent of non-online daters.
-- Only
50 percent get flustered talking to someone they're
attracted to versus 62 percent of non-online daters.
-- Online daters are more romantic.
-- Eighty-five percent
of online daters believe that everyone has a soulmate
versus 81 percent of non-online daters.
-- Seventy-eight
percent believe in love at first sight versus 70
percent of non-online daters.
-- Online daters are more committed to a relationship.
--
Ninety-two percent of online daters are looking for
a long term relationship versus 89 percent of non-online
daters.
-- Only 18 percent try to end things first
when they think someone might want to break up
with them versus 27 percent of non-online daters.
--
Eighty-six percent would be willing to go out of
their way to meet a romantic partner versus 75
percent of non-online daters.
"The findings from our study show that, contrary
to popular stereotypes, online daters have several
personality traits that people desire most in a partner
-- confidence, romance and commitment," said Dr.
Courtney Johnson, director of research at Tickle Inc. "More
than 40 million singles are using online dating services,
and with such a large pool of quality individuals,
chances are, your ideal mate is somewhere out on the
Internet."
