Yahoo Personals Uses Strange
Method to Promote Dating Service
(onlinedatingmagazine.com - June 3, 2003) Yahoo!
Personals is reverting to some strange promotional
techniques to draw attention to its online dating
service.
Here's how Yahoo! explains its "chick
magnet" promotion:
Yahoo!
Personals is bringing Bob, one
of America's favorite bachelors, and 30 gorgeous "chick
magnets" to major cities across the country.
Taking
their cue from popular refrigerator poetry magnets,
the 30 bachelors dressed in white from head to toe
will each display a different poetry word written on
their chests (words like: flirting, wishes, kissing,
lasting, spirited, sassy, fireworks, tasty, starry,
playtime...).
Women are invited to come out and meet
Bob and create human poetry by arranging the chick
magnets to create the romantic and fun phrase of their
choice.

America's next bachelor -- Bob Guiney -- joined the "chick
magnets" today in San Francisco and will also
be traveling to events in Chicago and New York in the
next week. Fans are encouraged to come out to have
their photos taken with America's favorite bachelor,
Bob Guiney, as well as their favorite "magnet" and
the phrase they authored at the following locations:
-- Chicago: Thompson Center (100 W. Randolph), 7:15
a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
-- New York: Times Square Visitor's Center (1560 Broadway),
8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
"Not everyone can have the opportunity to meet
someone special on a reality TV show," said Bob
Guiney. "But the opportunities for singles are
endless on a service like Yahoo!
Personals."
Bob Guiney was the star of The Bachelor 4 after starring in the first season of The Bachelorette.
