Letter to the Editor:
Don't Join True.com
I
want to put this out there so that everyone knows
DO NOT JOIN TRUE.COM. They operate based on deceptive
sales tactics.
First,
they trick you into their "free" trial.
Then they hook you if you don't call to cancel within
THREE DAYS. Now, I don't know about everyone else, but
I have a busy schedule and sometimes you forget to call.
So, now you're on the hook for the subscription. If you
call to "cancel" they bribe you with another "free" month.
That's what I did after I realized I didn't call to cancel
the 3 day trial. They told me that I'd have to pay for
a month but that as a bonus they'd give me a month free.
But the catch is that in order to not be charged after
that free month you have to remember to call to cancel
AGAIN! I said to the girl on the phone, "but I'm
calling NOW to cancel." She didn't seem to care.
Ok,
so a month went by and again I didn't call to cancel
(yes, my fault)... Alright, so I'll give this site
a chance and see what happens. I did that and after
a couple of months I wasn't satisfied. I called on
12/31/06 to cancel the subscription altogether. I
got through and spoke to James right away. No problem
there. He took my info, cancelled the subscription
and gave me a cancellation number. I thought I could
go on with my life, but no. On 1/16 there was a $2.99
charge on my debit account and on 1/19 another .99
was withdrawn. Yes, those amounts aren't staggering,
but why should they be taking out ANYTHING when I
cancelled??
Ok,
so get this...Infuriated I called today (1/21) and
spoke to Chris. Again, nice and cordial over the
phone. He took my info and put me on hold. He comes
back on the line and tells me that I MUST HAVE CLICKED
ON AN EMAIL THAT TRUE SENT FOR A FREE TRIAL! Not
only is this complete bunk (because why in the world
would I click for a free trial when I wasn't happy
in the first place??) but he is putting the blame
on ME. That is not good business right there. I KNOW
I didn't click on anything that even remotely resembled
a free trial. To further deepen this mystery, why,
if it's a free trial then, are they charging me $2.99
and .99? That doesn't sound very free to me!
I've
noticed that there seem to be many complaints similar
to mine. I don't know about anyone else but I am
going to complain to the Texas Better Business Bureau
for fraudulent business practices. I suggest everyone
who has been jaded by this company do the same. Either
they need to clean up their act or we need to put
them out of business!.
