Letter to the Editor:
Dating Sites for People With Disabilities?
How come there is a significant lack of online dating
sites for people with disabilities? Especially for
people with autism, and/or aspergers? Let alone information
on people with disabilities. I'm an 18 year old male
in college, with aspergers, and well, dating isn't
easy
for me. I've been on a few dates, but that's a long
story for another time.
Do people just don't want us to hook up with other
people who don't have these problems, or hook up with
people with similar problems?
It's very unfair and awfully
depressing for me and many others. I tried eHarmony,
I took the questionnaire, and no one was compatible,
that and it was very hard to understand. I've had similar
results on other dating sites, and my matches have
been well, troubling. (a teacher at the high school,
a half-sister(!) and a coworker).
So, is there a site?
And why are we being excluded from the fun?
~ David S.
Editor's Note: There
are thousands of online dating services and luckily
some even cover conditions like autism and aspergers.
Here ya go:
> ACdate.com
>
Aspie Friends
Unfortunately because of the narrow focus, these sites
may not have enough members to really be effective.
In that case, maybe someone will read your
letter and email us some additional ideas that we will
publish. Thanks for sharing your important thoughts.
Also, you may be interested in reading this
article from AutismForums.net that
shares some of your frustration. There are some good
ongoing discussions there about autism, aspergers,
and dating.
