Letter to the Editor:
Match.com and Russian Brides
Recently I received
one of the typical emails from a 'Russian' woman at
Match.com. It was soon obvious this was a scam of some
sort. Her ad said she was in Uleta FL and her email
said she was in Russia. Her pics were of a Russian
movie star.
I did a search for all women with the same description.
There were over 500 identical ads in the USA on Match.com.
The physical description was identical, education,
occupation, family, etc. None had a photo online.
I notified Match.com and they deleted the posts after
four days. It took a several prompts. I asked them
to notify any men those women wrote and warn them.
Match.com sent no response.
Match.com and other services should be able to scan the
databases weekly to find duplicate ads from multiple
cities. There were 10 within 15 miles of my zip code.
