Letter to the Editor:
Reviewing Online Daters is a Bad Idea
Yes, I'd love to get the scoop
about my next date, but I can see this
idea failing on so many levels:
1) A date review, almost by definition, means a
failed date. There will usually be no review if things
go
well. (After all, why would you want someone else
to horn in on
your new SO?) So, most of the reviews are going
to be negative, which doesn't aid the dating process.
2) There's no context for understanding the reviewer's
point of view. How many dates has s/he been on? What
sort of person is s/he? Is s/he just spiteful?
3) Eventually -- provided I get a date(s) from
online sites -- I'm going to end up reading about
ME. And really, I don't
want to read how poorly I did this or that.
4) From what I can see, men get few dates compared
to women. So, all else equal, women will write most
of the reviews. The site may end up not being all that
useful for men. ~ Brent B.
