The Seasons of Dating
Yes, Dating has Themes
The seasons are changing again, and with Summer turning into Fall, I have found that dating takes a turn as well.
In fact, I have found that dating has themes, and changes just as the seasons do. Dates take a different turn, as do personalities. And with a new season upon us, the dating prospects, as well as dating activities, differ.
Let me explain.
First, we must go back a few seasons. Let’s think winter. It’s cold, often snowy, and sometimes the best thing to do is to lounge around in comfy clothes, curl up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate and watch a good movie. Sometimes you may do this alone, and sometimes it’s with a significant other. The dating mood changes in the winter. Dates are often indoors, perhaps in a cozy restaurant by a fireplace. Or if he’s more adventurous, it’s outdoors playing in the snow—whether building a snowman, sledding or skiing. With a change of weather, the possibilities for dates change, but so does the personality of the date. I have found that guys are a bit cozier themselves in the winter. Guys that I have dated in that chilly season seem a bit shy at first, the cold closing them off. It takes a little while to get to know them better. They are a bit more mysterious, just like winter itself. But dating in the winter can be a great experience. Since it is a calmer season, it seems to be a better time to get to know someone because the activities themselves are more relaxed. But then spring comes…a new season that brings a change.
As the snow melts and the flowers bloom, so do relationships. Whether you meet someone new or continue dating your winter romance, there is a shift in the atmosphere of dating. Dating is no longer as closed-off as winter is, and as the days get warmer, so do dating possibilities. Guys want to venture out more, no longer contained to indoor dating. From my experience, as soon as the thermometer goes up, guys are ready to be more active. For some reason, guys I date always tend to be hikers. They love the outdoors are extremely excited when there is no more snow in their paths. It was as if the winter was holding them back. They become more outgoing and want to share their passions with the one they are dating. They get a surge of energy in the spring and want to share that. Sometimes, this boost of energy can be exhausting, because it almost seems like a change in personality. But as spring moves on, he mellows out a bit, that is, until summer hits.
If Spring brought on energy with guys, Summer gives a super-boost. Summer isn’t the only thing that brings on the heat—so do the guys. They live for hot summer days and nights. Dating in the summer seems like marathon events. It is easy to have dating activities during the day, such as going to the beach or going for ice cream, and then going out at night, like outdoor dining, fireworks, and concerts. Summer always seems so short, so guys like to pack all they can into summer, and they do that with the one they are dating. I’ve dated guys in the summer who like to spend every second outdoors, so much that sometimes I do just want to sit in and watch a movie. It can be kind of draining. Then again, it’s a good thing that a guy wants to spend time with the one he is dating and share his interests. In summer, he is always on the go, and if he is dating someone, she’s usually on the go with him.
That brings us up to our current season, Fall. Fall is a great dating season. Things calm down a bit after summer. The air turns cool, the leaves start to fall, and autumn activities make for a fun date. Also, it makes everyone aware that winter is coming, so it’s a good time to spend time outdoors still before that snow threatens. I’ve found that guys still want to do things outside, but aren’t opposed to doing indoor activities, like staying in and watching a movie on a cool day and snuggling up. They’re recuperating after a long summer, and fall is the best season to relax a little.
I love the season of Fall, and I think it’s one of the best times to date. Of course, it’s fun to date during any season, but they are very different and distinctive. With the changes of seasons comes a change in dating, but as always, that’s what makes dating so interesting. As long as you can keep up with the change of seasons, you can keep up with dating. Just don’t forget your snow hat or flippers, depending on the season, of course.
