(May 14, 2012) Former talk show host Ricki Lake says that she was on several online dating Websites for several years during her search for “Mr. Right”. It wasn’t all fun and games for Ricki, though. Last year she revealed in an interview that she fell for a British man hard, via online dating. How far did the relationship progress? Ricki Lake told Newsweek Magazine, “I met with an immigration lawyer. I was going to marry him so he could get a green card. I even went to England with him and met his mother.”
Lake says she was infatuated with the British “gentleman” despite warnings from her staff, family, and friends about the man an his intentions.
Regarding online dating, Lake told Newsweek the following:
My friends thought I was crazy for online dating. For somebody famous, it’s weird anyway to meet someone because they have a preconceived notion of who you are. There was something anonymous that I liked about being online.”
Ricki Lake isn’t the first celebrity to try online dating. Many others, from Paula Abdul to Matthew Perry have used the Internet in their search for “true love”.
Lake says that she “really loved” online dating and thinks it is the way to meet these days. She talks about her online dating experiences in her new book, “Never Say Never: Finding a Life that Fits.”
