Some Online Dating Tips from an Online Dater

I've tried several dating sites with mixed results. Here is what I have discovered:

1) Some sites are scams. Beware of the emails that are created by the site itself but appear to be coming from an individual on the site. True.com is particularly bad about this.

2) Before giving any money to a site, check out their cancellation policy. Some have some very shady dealings.

3) Some sites are too narrowed in the questions they ask and how they match you up. I feel that I am a better judge of what I want than some computer and prefer to search for myself. I'm not hung up on looks or how much a guy makes. I tend to look deeper. I pay more attention to how his profile is written than how he looks in his picture.

4) Some sites are very restrictive on pictures that are posted. Others allow nudity. I'm an adult and the nudity does not offend me. In turn, I do not consider emails that come with a nude picture. Some things are better left for discovery at a later time, and I'm not out looking to simply get laid.

5) Security is a big issue to consider. Be sure to ask questions. Make sure he is who he says he is. Google his name and city he is from. (This can help more than you know.) I have met and dated several men over the past year. I am happy to say that all of those experiences have been wonderful. I am very careful before going out with someone new and suggest that others do the same.

I get flooded with emails from men. I'm no Miss America by any stretch of the imagination. Because of this I was taken back by all of the attention I got when I first started looking on line. I learned that I can be picky about who I talk to and date. It is ok to respond with "Sorry, I'm not interested" and move on to the next perspective date. I have only had one-person message me back with a nasty response.

Men outnumber women on most of these sites. Therefore, women have an advantage. (Sorry guys.) Before you start looking to date anyone, take a good look at who you are, decide what you want then you will know who to send the auto respond and who you want to spend your time getting to know. Remember that you are essentially marketing yourself. Be honest about who you are but at the same time paint yourself in a good light. Play up your strengths, qualities, and personality. Be the person you want to attract.
