Internet Dating - Learn From Experience
26 year old female
from California
Where should I begin? Well, to put it
mildly, Internet dating is about the worse experience
I have ever had. Getting to know a person through the
computer is just very flawed because that person can "talk" himself
or herself up in person, but in real life be a real
disappointment.
I have dated quite a few online so you will see what
I mean.
I live in an isolated town where it is hard to meet
singles, so my friend suggested that online dating
might be a good thing.
The first one I met when I just turned 25. He was
a brilliant grad student, but a little bit obsessed
about me after just meeting me. We had an interesting
conversation, but no real connection. After meeting
for coffee that night he called me at midnight to let
me know he got home okay. This was a little strange
because we had parted ways three hours before and did
not know each other all that well. Let's just say that
was a little freaky.
The second guy was a snob. He basically told me I
was not competent enough to do my job.
The third guy lied about being married one time to
many. In emails he admitted to only having been married
once. However, when we met it came out he had been
married twice. There are just some things people should
not lie about.
The fourth one appeared to be a winner at first. Amazingly
we dated for over nine months. It turns out he lied
the entire time about ever wanting to have more children,
even though I had let him know before we even became
serious that I only could be in a serious relationship
with
a man who wanted children. The whole time we were together
he admitted that he would want that one day. Then,
boom, one day he said he wanted to break up with me.
I asked why, and he said it was because he never wanted
to have children. Like an idiot I begged him not to
break up with me and that I loved him so much I would
give
that up. However, I failed to realize he was just using
me all those months and never really cared about me.
He kept talking about how he preferred blondes, but
like an idiot I stayed around until things feel apart.
After I begged him not to break up with me we ended
up having an argument about something hurtful he said
to me. He fixed the problem by never calling again.
I guess he must have really not liked me to do that.
I was on the rebound after this relationship so I
went back on Match.com. The fifth guy lied about his education.
The sixth guy alluded to the fact I did not appear
attractive in person, even though I look the same in
pictures as I do in person.
The seventh guy was okay, but it turns out we had
nothing to talk about in person.
The eighth one was rude and put me down in public.
The ninth guy said he could not see me again because
I was not into friends with benefits.
The tenth guy had lots of friends who are girls, and
I just found that annoying.
So after all of these experiences I have come to the
conclusion: I would rather be alone until I meet someone
I click with in real life. Sadly, I think I was using
online dating to fill some void of my isolated small
town life. We must work on ourselves before we can
share our lives with someone else!
