He Just Disappeared
50 year old female from Texas
I met "Matt" in January of
2004. He saw my profile on Match.com and contacted me
first. We clicked immediately and it seemed we had so
much in common. We would spend hours and hours online
writing back and forth to each other. He began immediately
to send me gifts, beautiful roses, chocolates, roses
dipped in 24 kt. gold, jewelry, etc. Being a cautious
woman, I even paid to run a background check on him and
everything came back fine.
Matt was everything he said
he was; successful, single and wealthy. Matt traveled
a lot and even sent me a first-class ticket to Europe.
I couldn't go at the time so I returned the ticket.
We fell madly in love with each without ever having
met in person. He would call me from Europe and we
would
talk trans-atlantically for six or seven hours. He
shared with me his life and family and I did the same.
After
four months of this, Matt got on a plane to the UK
and simply disappeared. Despite emails, letters and
phone
calls, I've never heard from him again. This occurred
at a time when my youngest daughter was a senior
in high school and I was experiencing stress on my
job. I nearly
lost my mind. I was devastated when he disappeared.
I fell for Matt as I had for no other man, including
my
ex-husband, father of my two daughters.
At first,
I
would see that Matt opened my messages and simply
didn't reply
(you can check status on AOL). After a while, he
simply deleted my messages without even reading them.
Even
now, a year later, I still miss Matt and wonder
if I will
ever get closure without knowing what happened.
Oddly, I don't hate Matt or even wish him harm. I
know
in my heart that what we shared was real and I know
that
he
won't experience anything as profound with any
other woman. I just want to know what happened.
