Reality Versus Humor – Online Dating Lies
It may surprise you to know that more than 50%-80% of online daters tell lies on their online dating profile. Some profiles read more like a fiction book than a true-to-life profile. It’s a sad fact that many people think they have to tell fibs in order to get a date. They are trying to secure a date under false pretense. And when you secure a date under a false pretense, the chances of that date (or a relationship) working out drops drastically.
Women mostly lie about weight and their photo (i.e. posting an older photo or enhancing their profile photo) while men mostly lie about income and height. For the record:
- A photo more than 4 months old is “outdated”.
- A photo altered in Photoshop (or other similar enhancement software) is inaccurate and doctored.
- If you are 5’10 and put 6’0 on your profile, it doesn’t make you 6’0 and any date will think you to be a liar as soon as they see you (not a good start to a first date).
- Doing the laundry at your parents house does not qualify as “having a job” or “being employed”.
Please bring honesty back to online dating by not lying in your profile. Be honest so that the person you attract will love you for who you are versus who you are projecting yourself to be. Remember that you never get a second chance to make a good first impression. Don’t make that first impression be the discovery of you lying on your profile.
